Not much time, so decided to post a random video before I run. And this is just about as random as it can get. You love kung-fu right ? And you also love bluegrass ? Howabout a bit of ceilidh dancing ?
This is what happens when you put them altogether.
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich was the unlikely name of a band that according to Wikipedia spent more time on the UK charts between 1965 and 1969 than the Beatles! Sadly Dave Dee passed away a few days ago.
I saw them (minus Dave Dee) perform back in the late 80s or early 90s, and was astounded at how good they were. The song 'Zabadak' particularly made a big impression on me. I thought I had posted this before, but not according to Google.
1968 was a year in which they were obviously on fire. As well as recording 'Zabadak' they also had hits with 'Bend It', and their biggest hit of all 'The Legend of Xanadu'.
I was reminded of this by the recent posting of Verka's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest by Mister Anchovy. Here he is with the song "Всё будет хорошо" (vsyo budet xarasho) which means "everything will be fine".
I've never seen one of these for sale before. It's a Cymbalon from Hungary made in about 1875 and fully working. It sold for a shamefully low price of $1,200 (£611).
For a great example of one in action then it's over to the ever wonderful Taraf de Haidouks who are here joined by the Kocani Orchestar and Tarik Tuxsiszoglu on derbouka. If only symphony orchestras sounded like this ! This track is so wonderful I keep watching over and over again. Unfortunately it cuts out early, so I must go and buy the DVD this came from.
