Vintage Instruments in Philadelphia have lots and lots of interesting musical oddities, especially if strings are your thing. I'm more of a keyboard player myself of course, which is why the following couple of items caught my eye.
First up is a 'Rocking Melodeon'. It looks quite difficult to play because it looks like the entire keyboard needs to be rocked up and down. Although perhaps I've got that wrong. It has buttons instead of keys but they appear to be layed out in a piano keyboard style. I'd love to hear how it sounds, but unfortunately $1200 is out of my price range. Even more rare than rocking melodeon is a harmonicor. This is similar to the goofus that I featured a few weeks ago in that it's a wind instrument but with buttons layed out in a piano style. Only instead of buttons it actually has trumpet style valves. So it's a kind of trumpet accordion really ! I wish I had one of these to play at gigs.
