The two Manu Chao records are actually quite remarkable in that they are not in the least bit heavy. Bass and drums and kept to a minimum as skanking guitars weave in and out creating a rhythm which gets into your ear and won't easily get out.
Live however, a full band explodes with all the punky energy that the records only hint at.
I've read in a couple of places now (but I forget where) that Manu Chao finally has a new album coming out later this year. It's been so long since the last one that I fear there might be a few people out there who have yet to discover Manu Chao.
