Cumbia from Nicaragua

I don't think I've ever posted any music from Nicaragua, so here's a nice piece of cumbia from an artist called Sacasa. Whilst the accordion in this is fine, its the organ that I really like.

Forro Lyrics

It seems that more than a few genres of music that feature the accordion are considered to be unsophisticated and impolite. The music of the lower classes. Which makes me like it all the more.

Here's a good comparison of some lyrics from Brazil. First we have some lovely bossa nova, which is definitely sophisticated. The lyrics are poetry.

And now some Forro from Luiz Gonzaga.
However, not all Forro is quite so silly. This one is quite poetic, in a folksy kind of way.

Some Argentina Rock Music

It's a bank holiday weekend here and the weather has been perfect for pottering about and not doing too much. Ideal for barbecues, visiting outdoor markets and sitting in the garden.

Here's some radio-friendly rock music from Argentina  as a throwaway soundtrack to your weekend.

La Portuaria (with David Byrne)

Kapanga

Also, I'm messing about with a new plug-in for my blog which should hopefully make things a bit more clickable. Try it out and let me know of any problems please.

Soca Bhangra

I think I've mentioned before the 'Chutney' music of the West Indies which in which the local Indian population mix their music with Caribbean sounds. Harmoniums and accordions are often featured. Here's another example.

Cueca from Chile

The national dance of Chile is the cueca.

Here's a fine example.

And here's some music from Los Trukeros - the sound quality isn't great, but the performances are interesting.
