The discovery of song and the creation of musical instruments both owed their origin to a human impulse which lies much deeper than conscious intention: the need for rhythm in life?the need is a deep one, transcending thought, and disregarded at our peril. ~Richard Baker

Trot Music has been showing up on KBS television lately. Yui Huiyeol, last weekend, presented a new Korean guitar player whose genre was exclusively Trot. The week prior, another musical duet on Yui Huiyeol said before-hand that the song is being performed in the Trot tradition, or Trot inspired, which it was. And a new weekday serial, My One and Only, in the opening episodes, features a character returning to Seoul after being dismissed from an exclusive European classical music school for wanting to play Trot on her violin, which she then proceeds to play at a concert in front of her shocked parents and future mother-in-law to be, who was a classically trained violinist from the same school. The young man with whom she is beginning to fall in love was the only one to applaud her rendition and has named her "Trot Violin" on his cell phone. The theme music for that show is also Trot-like and follows that strong 4/4 beat. So it may be making a come-back in Korea as it is showing up on many of their TV broadcasts.
