Omnichord Music

I've been aware of the Suzuki Omnichords and QChords for a long while, but have never (knowingly) heard one until I was following up a tip off from Bruce over at Accordion Noir for the musician Jenny Omnichord. Wow, what an instrument to miss - I love them.

Unfortunately Jenny doesn't have any videos on YouTube, but she does have a Myspace page which you can check out.

Here though is a video from Pagan Wanderer Lu singing with his Omnichord in a Cemetary.

1938 Ford Truck Calliope

Compare this with the Smart Car I featured yesterday. This is a 1938 Ford Truck with a circa 1920 National Calliope Model B 955 fitted in the back. The calliope plays manually or automatically with paper rolls. The truck is decorated with rounding boards from a carousel dated about 1895 giving this a true element of the fairground.

Smart Technology!

Smart Technology!, originally uploaded by Nina Pope.

Starting a small series of mobile instruments this week, here we have a wonderful combination of old and new. This home made midi controlled street organ is powered by the cigarette lighter in the owner's Smart car.

Seraphine ?

This nice lap organ by Daniel B. Bartlett recently appeared on Ebay. It needs a bit of restoration to the bellows and the case needs a bit of work but other than that it's a decent example of an instrument that dates from the 1840s. It sold for US $315 (£155). I think these instruments may actually be called 'Seraphines', but I'm not sure. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Socalled sings "(These are) The Good Old Days"

This video, and the musician Socalled, is hard to explain - so I won't try. It's very clever, quite catchy and the accordion comes in at 1min 16secs.
