Electric Harpsichord

This unusual instrument is a Baldwin Combo Electric Harpsichord. It sold for $3,330 US on Ebay - reflecting the apparent rarity of these beasts.

The most well known use of a Baldwin Combo seems to be in the Beatles song 'Because' - particularly the intro. Here's a YouTube video.

There is also a wonderful site called 'The Baldwin Harpsichord Project' in which Mark Thomas recounts how he found one of these and has been restoring it.

Thanks for the link Mark - I'm always thrilled when someone links to Squeezytunes.
I hope all the work you're doing will prove worth it.

I have a Baldwin Electric Harpsichord in perfect condition with the original EMC Aries 150 amplifier that it was purchased with in the 60's. I love it but it is underutilized in my home....I should probably sell it to someone, or a school or studio, so that it would be used and appreciated. Any ideas on how/where to sell it to a really good home?

If you want to sell it to a really good home then try calling some of the bigger recording studios in your area. Many studios like to have a 'library' of instruments on hand and something like this could be ideal.

Would it be possible to use one of the pictures above for illustrating a page on Wikipedia ?
